Scope and Contents note

Correspondence in the President’s File has been assigned “record file” numbers, each number representing a different exchange of letters on a given topic. Topics include all aspects of the railroad business such as: operations, personnel, unions, budgets, changes in the regulation of railroad commerce, and relations with other lines. The era covered in this correspondence was a time of major expansion of the Burlington system, and there is a great deal of material on the leasing and acquiring of other lines. There also is significant information on the CB&Q takeover of the Colorado & Southern Railway, and the development of depot facilities in Kansas City.
