Letters to Judge Lambert Tree, together with drafts of outgoing replies, concerning national, local, and international politics and diplomacy, as well as affairs in Chicago. Also includes routine correspondence regarding invitations, introductions, and appointments. National. political, and diplomatic correspondents include Adlai Stevenson, Grover Cleveland, and William Howard Taft, and also Thomas F. Bayard, Isaac Bell Jr., Walter Q Gresham, Robert McLane, William Ralls Morrison, Robert B. Roosevelt, Elihu Root, William M. Springer, Richard W. Townshend, William F. Vilas, and George W. Wurtz. Chicago and Illinois correspondents include John P. Altgeld, Eliphalet W. Blatchford, John Vance Cheney, W. C. Goudy, Carter H. Harrison (d. 1893), George P. A. Healy, Samuel Insull, L. Z. Leiter, Robert Todd Lincoln, A. C. McClurg, Robert Sanderson McCormick, Joseph Medill, Honore Palmer, Erskine M. Phelps, and W. F. Story. There is also considerable correspondence from Mabel Boardman of the executive committee of the American National Red Cross, from Compagnie des Bronzes regarding the LaSalle statue, and from Eli Lundy Higgins who was in China during the Boxer Rebellion.
