Scope and Content of the Collection

From the Collection:

Small collection of incoming and outgoing letters, clippings, writings, notes and drafts of letters and articles, some pieces of memorabilia and seven snapshots of Chicago in the early twentieth century. The material relates mainly to the history and changing landscape of Chicago as evidenced in examples of McIlvaine’s 1927 columns in the Chicago Daily News, “Historical Spots in Chicago”, her lecture notes, and her letters to the editors of the Daily News and the Chicago Tribune urging more historical features. Included is a long, detailed history of the H.O. Stone & Co., a real estate investment firm founded in 1887, and thirteen essays written by Chicago seventh-graders after one of McIlvaine’s lectures.
