Series 4: Sound Recordings, 1936-1945

 Series

  • Staff Only

Scope and Contents note

Reel-to-reel tapes and disc recordings. The reel tapes are 5-inch and 7-inch tapes, one 7 1/2 ips (others not identified). Most of the content is completely unidentified; one tape merely says "Practice," and another has items crossed out so it is difficult to determine what is on the tape. Included, according to what is on the boxes of some of the tapes, is: Dichterliebe, by Schumann; Le Miroir, by Gustave Ferrari; Ese un giorno tornasse, by Respighi; Der Tod und Das Madchen by Schubert; Dumb Dora by Rogers (possibly the same as the disc recording); Salve Regina, by Pergolesi / Frederick Stock; Sunday and Love song by Brahms, in English; Fairy Tales by Erich Wolff, in English; and Dansons la Gigue, by Carpenter.

Arrangement note

Discs are 33 1/3 and 78 rpm records, many unlabeled, almost all presumably of Mina Hager. Many are also instantaneous discs or pressings. Songs by John Alden Carpenter are listed first by titles, with other compositions on the disk noted. The recordings which follow are listed in rough alphabetical order by one of the titles on the disk, and include a recording by Janet Fairbank. The incompletely identified material and blank disks are last. Broken and disintegrating disks have been discarded. All undated unless otherwise noted.
