Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

Planning and publicity files for the multitude of lecture series and special receptions hosted by the Arts Club, primarily in the Arts Club spaces but occasionally offsite. Famous lecturers include Nadia Boulanger, Gertrude Stein, Aaron Copland, Le Corbusier, Martha Graham, Darius Milhaud, Jean Dubuffet, Marianne Moore, Tom Wolfe, Alex Haley, David Mamet, David Sedaris, and John Cage. Files include correspondence with the lecturers and/or agents, fee arrangements, accommodations, and publicity about the person or event. The receptions are interfiled with the lectures in the files; receptions were given for notable people such as Thornton Wilder, Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge, Igor Stravinsky, and Marc Chagall. Occasionally for both files, only the announcement card exists.

Names in parentheses after the folder titles indicate prominent correspondents in the file; names in parentheses after "re:" indicate that the correspondence is about, not by, that particular person. Some names, such as Arts Club staff (Alice Roullier, Rue W. Carpenter, Elizabeth "Bobsy" Goodspeed Chapman, Rue W. Shaw, John Nef, Pat Scheidt, Kathy Cottong) are such frequent correspondents that they are not noted every time they appear in the file.

Photographs of the lecturers and guests were removed to the Audiovisual Series, Photographs section.
