Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

The Series consists of General Correspondence (requests for catalogs, general questions about the club and its hours, policies, etc., member magazine subscription program to Arts News and Arts Digest magazines, thank you letters); and specific correspondence of Alice Roullier, of Rue W. Carpenter, of Rue W. Shaw, of Kathy Cottong and of Stanley Freehling. Alice Roullier was the Arts Club's Chairman of the Exhibition Committee from 1918 to 1941, and knew personally many artists, particularly French artists. Rue W. Carpenter was the President of the Arts Club from 1918-1931, and her niece Rue W. Shaw was President from 1940-1979. Kathy Cottong was director of the Arts Club from 1994-2011. Stanley Freehling served as the President of the Arts Club from 1981-2005. While many of these correspondents have letters in other Arts Club series, such as Exhibitions, Lectures and Receptions, and Music, the nature of the letters in the Correspondence series are often more personal or general; they do not address a specific Arts Club exhibit or event.
