Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

A combination of personal and professional correspondence. Binder's letters are detailed and intimate, whether discussing family matters or conflicts with Daily News and Minneapolis Tribune management. Letters to colleagues such as Paul Scott Mowrer, Helen Kirkpatrick, and Hal O'Flaherty throughout his career at the Daily News illuminate the shifting of world affairs, and the changing focus of the newspaper. Later in his career he corresponded with political figures including Hubert Humphrey and Adlai Stevenson, and newspapermen such as Barry Bingham. He faithfully responded to reader's letters to the editor, often going on at length defending a particular column. Other correspondence includes letters to Jewish leaders such as Elmer Berger regarding his strong anti-Zionist viewpoint, and letters regarding his other publishing and speaking endeavors.
