 File — Box: 35, Folder: 520

Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

Scores related to Dorothy Hild’s productions at the Edgewater Beach Hotel and those put on during her time at Barnes – Carruthers. Popular arrangers she collaborated with include Robert H. Ballard and Irwin Kostal. Ballard composed songs for the Freddy Martin Orchestra, which not surprisingly performed alongside Hild and her dancers at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in the 1950s. Kostal, a Chicago native, went on to compose many award-winning arrangements such as those for the films West Side Story (1961), Mary Poppins (1964), and The Sound of Music (1965). In addition to the scores, the series contains orchestrations for the “City Allegro” production at the Edgewater Beach Hotel, called “Comedian’s Gallop,” and “Motor Crafts” from 1956, undoubtedly for an auto show. There are also unsorted song lyrics.

Arrangers are listed when known. Specific dates reflect either the copyright date and/or publication/production date.
