Volume 3, Pages 27-28 - Stella Jr., cousin Shirley, other children in family
Scope and Contents note
Three disbound scrapbooks compiled by Stella Skiff Jannotta for her youngest son, Joseph Edwin Jannotta, in the early 1930s. Titled, “The Evolution of a Man: Joseph Edwin Jannotta, His Story in Pictures,” the volumes contain a variety of materials including photographs, correspondence, clippings, programs, and family histories. Most pages include Stella Jannotta’s extensive handwritten annotations. Topics include Joseph’s ancestry, Stella’s youth in Newton, Iowa, family births, deaths, and marriages, Alfredo’s music career, Stella’s political activities, the Jewel Tea Company, and family trips and events.
The volumes are individually titled as follows:
- Volume 1: Ancestry, 1801-1911, bulk 1850s-1906
- Volume 2: Childhood and Youth, 1898-1932, bulk 1901-1921
- Volume 3: Manhood, 1877-1933, bulk 1921-1933
Scrapbook pages are fragile and have been individually foldered. The pages are roughly chronological, but some may be out of order than when originally compiled. Page descriptions include the primary people and subjects but are not comprehensive. The last half of Scrapbook Volume 2 has mold damage and is missing photographs. Items contained in envelopes have been separated for preservation purposes.
