The correspondence consists of incoming and outgoing letters almost exclusively regarding publishing of The Dial. Included are copies of two letters from Francis F. Browne to Hamlin Garland, plus a large collection of letters sent to Browne's sons when he died in 1913. Notable correspondents include Melville Best Anderson, John Burroughs, Bliss Carman, William Lloyd Garrison, Edward Everett Hale, William Dean Howells, Charles F. Lummis, John Muir and St. George L. Sioussat. Also, there is a short exchange of letters between Browne and Henry Childs Merwin in 1910 concerning a visit to Chicago by Bret Harte.
