Includes draft meeting minutes, in E. W. Blatchford's hand, from the period of the Newberry Library's founding and administration by the executors of the Walter L. Newberry estate (1887 1892, April 23) and official minutes of Trustees of the incorporated Newberry Library beginning April 25, 1892. From 1887 to 1892, minutes of frequent meetings between Newberry executors E. W. Blatchford and W. H. Bradley, and the Librarian, William Frederick Poole, document all facets of the establishment of the Newberry Library. The minutes of the Trustees of the Newberry Library include Trustee committee reports, appointments, resolutions, Librarian's reports, and other special reports and resolutions. Topics include the Library building, staff appointments and salaries, budget and expenditures, collection acquisition (AMA Library, Probasco Library) and organization, and endowment properties.

The Newberry Library Archives are open for research in the Special Collections Reading Room; 1 box at a time (Priority III).

Unprocessed records are available by appointment only. Advance notice is necessary, particularly for administrative files, so that files may be screened for personnel records that are removed when records are processed.

Files containing personal or confidential information about individuals (including individual files on members of the Board of Trustees, individual donor files and records reporting the donations of an individual, personnel records, payroll records, and individual accepted fellows files) are closed for 30 years.
