Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Incoming and outgoing correspondence, primarily pre 1910, with the Trustees concerning all facets of Newberry Library administration. The foldered (incoming and outgoing) correspondence is addressed primarily to E. W. Blatchford or the Trustees, but also to Poole and later Librarians. The letterpress copybooks contain outgoing Trustee correspondence from 1887-1894, including letters from Blatchford and Bradley, and after the 1892 incorporation, the Trustees as a whole. Correspondence concerns staff matters, the design and construction of the Walton Street building (architect Henry Ives Cobb), significant acquisitions (AMA Library, Healy paintings, Bonaparte, Ayer and Wing collections), and the administration of Library collections.
