Biography of Charles T. Cullen

Charles Cullen was the seventh president of the Newberry Library and held office from 1986 to 2005. Prior to his arrival at Newberry, Cullen worked as a senior research historian and editor of "The Papers of Thomas Jefferson" at Princeton University.

Under Cullen, the Newberry led two successful Capital Campaigns, a building exterior washing, and a building renovation. The creation of the Public Programs Department, a database system called NLCindex, the Development Office, and the Encyclopedia of Chicago History were major projects of Cullen's tenure.
