Scope and Contents
Includes departmental and reading room monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and statistics regarding the activities of the Reader Services Department, previously named the Division of Public Services. The reports contain a narrative section detailing the operations of the department during the reporting period, with some reports also including reading room usage statistics. The reading room statistics generally include number of readers, books paged, telephone calls, and correspondence.
Monthly and annual reports for the Division of Public Services, 1918-1961, are also located in Record Group 03/20/21, where they are bound together with reports from other Library departments. Departmental statistics, 1917-1942, are located in Record Group 03/20/22.

Conditions Governing Access
The Newberry Library Archives are open for research in the Special Collections Reading Room; 1 box at a time (Priority III).
Unprocessed records are available by appointment only. Advance notice is necessary, particularly for administrative files, so that files may be screened for personnel records that are removed when records are processed.
Files containing personal or confidential information about individuals (including individual files on members of the Board of Trustees, individual donor files and records reporting the donations of an individual, personnel records, payroll records, and individual accepted fellows files) are closed for 30 years.
