Scope and Contents note

From the Sub-Series:

188 color maps, on sheets 51 x 112 cm or smaller, folded to 25 x 11 cm. Covers France in 48 numbered sheets; includes multiple editions of all sheets. Front covers include a series index map. Filed at the start of this subseries is an index map to sheets 1-47, Une des cartes Michelin: la France a l'echelle de 1:2,400,000e, published [192-?]. Beginning about 1923 Michelin phased out publication of sheets 1-48, replacing these with renumbered sheets, all printed on larger sheets covering larger areas. The later and larger sheets are arranged separately in France subseries 2, regional maps of France, approximately 1923-2001, sheets 51-86 and 90. For examples of maps showing design transition, see Series 1, France, subseries 1 sheets 1, 2, 19, 22, 23, and 35, and subseries 2 sheets 83, 84, and 85.
