Phair, Nancy - Eleanor of Equitaine and the Eternal Wheels of Hype, February 9, 1994

 File — Box: 10
Identifier: 1

Paper description

Referring to a biography of Eleanor of Aquitaine, the author describes how difficult it is to make sense of her life. Why did she go on the 2nd Crusade? Why did her marriage to Louis of France get annulled, and two months later why did she marry Henry Plantagenet, the future Henry the 1st of England? Why did she move her court to Poitiers taking son Richard with her? Why was she estranged from Henry? Why did she use her sons against him? The historians had answers to these questions but are any of the answers true?
