Conoco Touraide road atlases, 1947
Scope and Contents
Conoco Touraide road atlases in loose stock sheets (approximately 11,000 sheets) compiled for the Continental Oil Company. Designed for compiling custom-made atlases of single journeys, personalized for Conoco Travel Bureau customers with recommended routes highlighted by hand. Assembled-to-order from preprinted sheets with road maps, descriptions of places of interest, and directories of traveler accommodations. Includes 9 complete spiral-bound atlases dated 1936, 1937, 1942, 1956, and 1958 (all publisher’s dummies, not personalized or marked by hand); undated pairs of front and back covers (printed [193-?]) and other unbound covers with dates; and many sheets wrapped in bundles with brown paper or office envelopes. Lacking sheets for 1943, 1944, 1945, and 1953.
Note that 30 additional Touraide atlases issued 1936-1963 are described in the online catalog. Most of these are personalized and highlighted copies, but do not form part of the company archives.
