Scope and Content of the Collection

Collection of 32 flyers advertising Indigenous American powwows, festivals, and art shows, primarily in the midwestern United States. A majority of the events were held in Illinois and Wisconsin; others were held in Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, and New Mexico.

Many of the powwows are held annually and include the Rockome Gardens Indian Pow Wow in Arcola, Illinois; Osawan Powwow in Marengo, Illinois; Indian Summer Festival and Competition Pow Wow in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Oneida Pow Wow in Green Bay, Wisconsin; Honor the Earth Pow Wow in Hayward, Wisconsin; Ann Arbor Pow Wow in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Gathering of Nations Pow Wow in Albuquerque, New Mexico. One flyer advertises the All-American Indian Pow-Wow held in Michigan City, Indiana in 1987 in conjunction with the 10th Pan American Games. Among the tribal groups and organizations represented are the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin, Swan Creek and Black River Bands of Chippewa Indians, American Indian Center of Chicago, Mascoutin Society of Chicagoland, and University of Michigan Native American Student Association.
