Yates, Richard - Political Meeting Announcement Card, 1908

 File — Box: 68, Folder: 1220

Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

Miscellaneous souvenirs and scrapbooks collected by various members of the Dawson and Hahn families. Scrapbooks by George Ellis Dawson cover his travels through Europe as well as his activities in music and literary clubs. Scrapbooks by Eva Manierre Dawson also contain souvenirs from Europe; she and her sister Kate studied music in Vienna. There are also several autograph books. One, whose creator is unknown, contains an Oscar Wilde signature in addition to other entertainers of the time who traveled through Chicago in 1882.

Also included are twenty oversize posters that, according to Mitchell's son Gregory, were collected during a trip to Mexico in the 1940s. Several of them feature the Mexican film star Cantinflas; others appear to be government announcements to promote literacy or corn agriculture. Most of them are stored rolled; the last item is extremely fragile and stored flat.
