James Hayes was a renowned designer of calligraphic bookplates. This short series derives from his own files on bookplate work, both his own and that of others which he collected by exchange of specimens.

Arrangement note

There are four sections: Bookplate Exhibits in which Hayes' work was represented; Bookplate Exchanges with other collectors; other Bookplates Collected. Grouped by location of design or manufacture (all in Box 25); and Commissions of bookplates from Hayes, arranged chronologically in Box 26 and 27.
