Scope and Contents note
Materials pertaining to Hope Abelson's career in theater, including scripts, posters, playbills, correspondence, clippings, and production notes. Some of her earliest theater-related work is represented with items from her WWII-era service in Chicago Women's Aid, as well as Chicago's Music Theater in Highland Park, Ill. Abelson's New York City period includes materials from her work with producer Cheryl Crawford on Camino Real, The Thirteen Clocks, and Trouble in Tahiti, the Broadway productions of The Egghead, the Rainmaker, Royal Hunt of the Sun, and Siegel Street, and productions of The Golden Apple and Madame Will You Walk? from the Off-Broadway Phoenix Theatre. Also included are documents chronicling Abelson's involvement with the Stratford Shakespeare Festival of Ontario, Canada, and her efforts to establish the Chicago Associates of the Stratford Festival.
