Incoming letters to Charles L. Hutchinson, some to his wife, Frances K. Hutchinson, plus eight others. Subject matter reflects Hutchinson’s numerous and varied activities, including invitations, membership information, social and thank-you notes, acknowledgments, requests, and personal and organization reports. Noteworthy correspondents are Edward E. Ayer, archeologist Francis H. Bacon, James Henry Breasted (first chairman of the Department of Egyptology at the University of Chicago), Isabella Stewart Gardner, Frank W. Gunsaulus, architects Daniel H. Burnham and John W. Root, Charles Norman Fay and the early Chicago Symphony, Harriet Monroe, and artists William Holman Hunt and Henry Ward Ranger. There is a folder of material relating to the American Federation of the Arts, for which Hutchinson served as first vice-president.
