Family histories - copies (originals dated 1660, n.d.), 1940s

 File — Box: 13, Folder: 243

Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

Contains official documents, such as indentures, marriage certificates, land deeds and certificates, and other materials that are not attributable to any single family member. Also includes materials pertaining to the Lewis family farm in Pendleton, Indiana. These materials include receipts for the upkeep of the farm and sale of livestock and other farm products. Care of the farm passed hands from Joseph B. Lewis to Jay Lewis to his sisters Eva and Maude, and later to his children Louise and Lloyd. Upon Lloyd Lewis' death, part of his share was left to his wife Kathryn Lewis. Louise Lewis sued Kathryn Lewis for proceeds of the sale of the farm and other property in Pendleton, Indiana based on unclear wording in the will of Lloyd Lewis. Series contains papers from this suit. While some documents are originals, many are photocopies obtained by Louise Lewis from various historical societies and other agencies.
