Includes poetry, essays, treatises written by the Spencer family and acquaintances. Some were published, primarily in newspapers, although many were not. Topics include Platt Rogers Spencer’s views on temperance, slavery, a history of Geneva, Ohio, and a statement as county treasurer of Ashtabula County. Examples of poetry include works of Platt Rogers Spencer, Sarah Spencer Sloan, Ruth Spencer (Lyman Potter Spencer’s daughter), Sarah Beach Spencer (Mrs. Robert Spencer), and Warren P. Spencer (Platt’s nephew). Other family members, such as Ellen Mussey Spencer, wrote essays on a variety of other matters. Arranged alphabetically by name of author, although box 11B contains bound copies of poetry by Platt Rogers Spencer only.
