Scope and Contents note
The documents consist largely of letters to and from Napoleon and his military & political associates, letters between Napoleon and members of his family and among family members, and a few autograph documents of artistic and literary notables of the Napoleonic era. Important materials concern Napoleon’s exile and death at St. Helena; the marriage of Pauline Bonaparte and Camillo Borghese; and correspondence between Napoleon’s legitimate son, Francois, and his mother Marie-Louise of Austria.
Abbreviations for type of material are as follows: AL = Autograph letter; ALS = Autograph letter, signed; LS = Letter, signed; ADS = Autograph document, signed; DS = Document, signed.
Box 27 consists of the book, Cavaliers de Napoléon by Frédéric Masson ; illustrations d’apre`s les tableaux et aquarelles de E´douard Detaille (Paris : Boussod, Valadon & Cie, 1895). The book was formerly cataloged as Case MS 6A 383.
