Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

Newsclippings, magazine features, newspaper articles and interviews. Includes clippings that mention Royko in passing (an appearance at a charity event, for example). Several Chicago columnists, like Robert Herguth, Irv Kupcinet, and Mort Edelstein mentioned him often, especially in the 1970’s. Common topics were talking about his books, his public appearances, topics in his columns that were acted upon by activists or local government, comments he made, or how the Daily News softball team was doing (Mike Royko pitching or at bat.) This series also includes all publicity and reviews for Royko’s books. “Scraps” is a category of Royko’s own; it is possible that he was intending to make a scrapbook one day, and this is the raw material. “Scraps” is three folders that include clippings, columns, press releases, correspondence (moved to Correspondence Series, noting original location), and photographs (moved to Photographs Series, noting original location). Royko’s original order of the folders and their contents has been maintained. Many but not all items in Scraps are duplicated in the other Publicity files.
