Scope and Content of the Collection
The Gausby Papers consist of calligraphic, illuminated, and collage manuscript codices and broadsides, personal correspondence (much of it calligraphic), and other documents relative to the artistic career of Christopher Gausby. There are also published pieces by Gausby and color photocopies or digital versions of artworks, both those included in the collection at the Newberry and those held elsewhere.

Biography of Christopher Gausby
New York calligrapher, illuminator, writer, and sculptor.
Gausby was born March 1, 1954 in New York City. He graduated with a B.A. in philosophy and religion from Beloit College in 1977 and briefly attended The General Theological Seminary in New York City. He taught calligraphy at the Craft Students League, New York City (now defunct) from 1983-1988. From 1989 to 2013 he worked as production editor for various New York City medical publishers. He is presently retired.
