A modern dance company founded in 1958 by Suzanne (Sue) Ettlinger, Martha (Marti) Koplin, and Dorothy (Dotti) Mozen. The founders met in a modern dance class in North Shore. After discovering they shared both a similar background and a passion for modern dance the three created Dance Horizons as a school for creative movement in Highland Park. Their early classes focused primarily on children and youth instruction, but they would later expand to regularly offered adult classes as well. The founders also performed and hosted workshops as The Trio until the early 1960s when Mozen began to pursue other interests eventually leaving the school and moving to Berkley, California.

Operating in conjunction with the Department of Parks and Recreation in Highland Park, Dance Horizons offered modern dance classes for children and adults. The focus on children was very important to Ettlinger and Koplin in hopes of developing increased mobility and body control, as well as inspiring creativity in their students. Their classes were offered both in the Highland Park Recreational Center and in the Highland Park Y.W.C.A. On some occasions Dance Horizons would also offer workshops and short programs at area elementary and high schools.

Students participated in performances and had the opportunity to attend special classes with guest instructors including Merce Cunningham, Daniel Nagrin, Katherine Litz, Alwin Nikolais, Murray Lewis, Don Redlich, and Charles Weidman. Dance Horizon also performed in local dance festivals, schools, and appeared regularly on WTTW in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The school closed after Ettlinger and Koplin’s retirement.
