History of the Century of Progress International Exposition

The Century of Progress International Exposition was held in Chicago from 1933 to 1934 to celebrate the city’s centennial. The fairgrounds were located along the shore of Lake Michigan at Northerly Island, between 12th and 39th streets on the Near South Side. With a theme of technological innovation, the fair opened on May 27th, 1933. It was scheduled to run only until November 12, 1933, but was so successful that it opened again on May 26, 1934 and closed on October 31, 1934.
