Scope and Content of the Collection

Around 150 pieces of ephemera, primarily performing arts, collected by Lillian Lipson. Collection includes programs, playbills, flyers, advertisements, tickets, menus, postcards, and brochures from dance, theater, and music performances in Chicago along with materials from local businesses and attractions.

Many programs are annotated by Lipson with her notes about the event and the particular day. Some programs include tickets from the event as well. Information about the contents of each folder, such as dance company names, musical performers, or theater names, has been included in the finding aid.

Biography of Lillian Lipson ephemera collection

White, Chicago dancer and activist.

Lillian Rose Witz Lipson (1918-1989) was born and raised in Chicago. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1935 and attended the University of Chicago. Along with husband Henry Marvin Lipson (1916-1989), she helped found the North Shore School of Jewish Studies in Evanston and was a member of the Sybil Shearer Dance Company.
