Scope and Content of the Collection
Material assembled in 1951-1953 by scholar William Van O'Connor for a study of the work of William Faulkner. Mainly newspaper clippings, many from The Oxford Eagle of Oxford, Mississippi, either about or by Faulkner, and several articles. Also, a group of incoming letters from people associated with Faulkner, which consists of responses to O'Connor’s search for personal information about the novelist, particularly his military career in the Royal Air Force and his experience as a Hollywood scriptwriter.

Biography of William Van O'Connor
American professor of English.
Born in Syracuse, New York, in 1915, and educated at Syracuse and Columbia Universities, O'Connor taught at Ohio State, University of Minnesota and University of California at Davis. Much in demand as a visiting scholar, O'Connor produced many articles, reviews and books, including studies of Wallace Stevens and William Faulkner. He also wrote poetry, fiction and drama. He died, suddenly, in 1966.

Material concerning William Faulkner assembled in 1951-1953 by Professor William Van O’Connor while teaching at the University of Minnesota, in preparation for a study of Faulkner’s work. Mainly newspaper clippings and articles about or by Faulkner, and a few letters to O’Connor from publishers, Hollywood associates and others, and the British Air Ministry regarding Faulkner’s service in the Royal Air Force.
