Irene Alexander’s subject files and records from her role as Special Supervisor for the Committee on Cultural and Economic Development of the City Council under Mayor Richard M. Daley. She often worked with Alderman Edwin P. Fifielski of the 45th Ward, who served as chair of the committee. Includes reports, correspondence, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, and subject files regarding music, theater, and Chicago buildings and landmarks.

Biography of Irene Alexander
White American concert pianist and arts advocate.
Irene Levy Alexander was born January 17, 1920 to Jacob and Elizabeth Schultz Levy in Chicago. A student of Heniot Levy at the American Conservatory of Music and Rudolph Ganz at Chicago Musical College, Alexander began playing piano at a young age and performed and taught piano throughout her life. She worked for the City of Chicago as a Special Supervisor for the Committee on Cultural and Economic Development in the 1960s, resigning in 1971.
Alexander died in Chicago on May 26, 2014.
