 Collection
Identifier: Modern-MS-41

Abstract

One letter, dated 15 August 1879, written by Hablot Knight Browne, an English artist who went by the pseudodym Phiz. In the letter, which is addressed "Dear Madame," Browne asks the recipient to return his portfolio for he is afraid it may accidently be thrown away. At the end of the letter, Browne has included a sketch depicting "Phiz lamenting the loss of his Folio in dust and ashes." Also included are two separate drawings: one of a young girl with blond ringlets and another depicting a ballerina, men in uniform, and profiles of men and women. The artist is unidentified and may or may not be Browne.
