Scope and Contents
Correspondence and writings of Alice Bartlett Stevens. The papers includes a 1940 letter addressed to Stevens from Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., the eldest son of President Theodore Roosevelt. Additional correspondence includes letters written between Alice Bartlett Stevens and Marken and Bielfelf Printers. Included with these letters are several photographs pertaining to Barbara Fritchie, a Unionist during the Civil War. The papers also include an essay written by Alice Bartlett Stevens entitled "The George Washington Cradle." Accompanying this essay is related correspondence addressed to Stevens from Eleanor Magruder (the owner of the cradle) and Joseph Keefer. In his letters to Stevens, Keefer lists people whom he believes own items that once belonged to George Washington.
