These files, grouped roughly by subject but not processed, appear to be McMurtrie’s personal record of his involvement with the American Imprints Inventory. Presumably much of this material is duplicated in the National Archives. The cards and slips, however, are originals, and are preserved here primarily as a record of the process by which the inventory was compiled.
