Operated by Woodruff until his death in 1876, the firm expanded, particularly in the South, but isolated lines and high equipment costs led to obligations exceeding earnings by the mid 1880’s. The firm joined the Union Palace Car Company in 1888, which in turn was purchased by the Pullman’s Palace Car Company in early 1889.
