Orville E. Babcock was American brevet Brigadier General, Aide-de-Camp to Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War, and Private Secretary to Grant during his presidency, 1869-1877. Collection is primarily correspondence relating to Babcock’s military career, service as private secretary to Ulysses S. Grant during his presidency, role in the Whiskey Ring trials of 1875-1876, and private life.
