Eden-Martin family papers

Abstract
Papers pertaining to the family of Illinois U.S. Representative John R. Eden (1826-1909). The majority of the material primarily concerns John R. Eden’s daughter Rose, her husband Ivory J. Martin, and their children. The papers also contain correspondence and material relating to the Taylor and Pifer families, who were the in-laws of Rose and Ivory’s son, Robert W. Martin. (Robert Martin married Ruth Pifer, daughter of Hattie Taylor and Finley Pifer).

Abstract
Letters of Ivory J. Martin of Sullivan, Illinois, to his daughter Olive Eden Martin, while she was a student at the University of Illinois, and later when she lived and taught in LaSalle, Illinois. Also includes a few letters to Olive from her mother, Rose Eden Martin, siblings, and friends. The letters are published in R. Eden Martin’s 2017 book, As Ever: The Letters of I. J. Martin to His Daughters: Olive Eden Martin and Mabel Martin George.

Frederick John Rank papers

Abstract
The Frederick John Rank papers contain his diaries from 1875-1939, which record his daily life and touch upon his work as a packer for Montgomery Ward. A bound volume about Rank's diaries, compiled by Rank's great-granddaughter Janet Rank Spaletto, is also present. Additionally the papers contain family correspondence, some of which relates to Rank's son's attempt for an assistant postmaster general appointment.

Letters of Margaret “Maggie” Hampton Steele to her cousin and future husband Silas W. Hampton, primarily from 1859 and 1860. They are written from Terre Haute, Indiana, where she attended the Female College (1859), and from her family's residences in Grandview, Illinois, and later Topeka, Kansas. Steele’s minister father moved his family to Kansas in support of the free-state faction, settling in Topeka as minister of the First Presbyterian Church. Abstract
A journal kept by Mary Sackett when she and her family emigrated from New York state to Laona, Winnebago County, Illinois, 1841-1842, three numbers of a manuscript pioneer newspaper with original work done by members of an Illinois reading circle in 1849, a recipe for taffy, some penmanship exercises and two colored drawings. Also, photocopies of genealogical material relating to the Sackett family collected in 1945.

Abstract
Correspondence, estate papers, family records, farm related accounts, diaries, cards, scrapbooks, yearbooks, oral histories, and photographs of the Steele and Winters families. Both families were early homesteaders and farmers in rural northwestern Illinois, settling in and around Bureau, Sangamon, and Winnebago Counties in Illinois in the early 1800s. Their extended families continue to live and farm in these areas to the present day.
