Smith, discussing the reception of his pamphlets about the Minnesota-Wisconsin frontier in the 1860's and 1870's.,Included are comments on the Battle of Birch Coulee, the Chippewa Valley, the Chippewa Indians, and the Eau Claire family of novelist G.P.R.
