Filipino Boy Scouts - annotated on backside, "Filipino boy scout organizations sprang up like mushrooms some time ago. Americans called the governor-general's attention to the fact that they were not boys at all but nearly all men and led by ex-insurrectos. They grew bold and talked about liberating their country from foreign tyrants. The governor put them out of commission" (#32), undated
Scope and Content of the Collection
A collection of 155 photographic postcards and two photographs, roughly the same size as the postcards, printed on lighter photographic fiber paper (#10A and 11A). Photographs were possibly produced by photographer Samuel M. Shera. Most items include titles and numbers handwritten in white photographic solution on the front, and many include handwritten annotations on the back. Postcards mostly depict figures, events, architecture, and landscapes in the Philippines.
Several postcards have an “S” written in a box, usually near the bottom-right corner of the picture side of the postcard. This includes postcards # 100, 138, 140, 141, 142, 146, 149, and 153. This “S” is possibly Shera’s signature or an indication of Shera’s photograph studio.
