Scope and Contents
Contains cataloguing manuals and classification guides used by cataloguers and classifiers in their daily work. Included are general cataloguing rules and procedures, instructions for cataloguing specialized collections (Wing, Greenlee, music), decimal and alphabetical tables, size measurement cards, etc. Cutter's Expansive Classification System guides include a general index to the classification and individual lists for Bible, Bibliography, Customs, History, Medicine, Music, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. There are also special Cutter based guides for the Ayer, Greenlee, and Wing Collections.

Conditions Governing Access
The Newberry Library Archives are open for research in the Special Collections Reading Room; 1 box at a time (Priority III).
Unprocessed records are available by appointment only. Advance notice is necessary, particularly for administrative files, so that files may be screened for personnel records that are removed when records are processed.
Files containing personal or confidential information about individuals (including individual files on members of the Board of Trustees, individual donor files and records reporting the donations of an individual, personnel records, payroll records, and individual accepted fellows files) are closed for 30 years.

Arranged with manuals and other cataloguing aids arranged chronologically, followed by classification guides arranged alphabetically by topic.
